Classroom Assistants - An Opportunity or a Threat?

10/04/2014 00:00

Clyde College has posted an advertisement for Classroom Assistants in the of ASN (Additional Support Needs)

Correlate contributors in (and out of) the sector are asking is this a genuine attempt to provide support or something of a 'creeping thtreat' to Jobs, Terms & Conditions and the £10 an hour class cover?

Some comments to The Correlate see this in similar light to 'Instructors' 'Associate Lecturers' and 'Assessors' a 'creeping threat' as it has been described.  Others view it (positively) as that of Care Assistants although one common concern relates to the monitoring and reporting of student progress - asking - Is that not the remit of the lecturer?

other 'main duties' have some blurring of the remits!

Who manages the Classroom Assistants? The Lecturer? Another workload issue?

Will they cover classes when lecturer is absent?

What do you think? An Opportunity or Threat?
