10/04/2014 00:00College principal says sector is future of higher education - The Herald Scotland
“COLLEGES should be the future providers of Scottish higher education alongside universities and should no longer be seen as the Cinderella sector, according to a leading figure.”
and the leading figure is...... although not everyone thinks so!
"Paul Little, principal of the City of Glasgow College, said further education was equipped to provide the economy with high-level skills in a cost-effective way.
His comments came during a speech yesterday at a National Tartan Day event at the United States Capitol Building in Washington DC."
and he was in Washingto DC - why?
The Correlate is of the understanding that Scottish FE has been a very positive route into HE for students and indeed has been delivering HE level units and programmes for a considerable number of years!
What we need to consider is the negative impact of the current government policies combined with the cuts and reported poor management and governance history of Further Education which has happened over the years of incorporation.
We asked for a review of the Scottish Further Education Sector and Griggs provided a reasonable framework which the government managed to dismantle and having no reference to the assembly sheet used the 'old guard' management to reform the sector and we are now where we are!
No second chance opportunities to upskill or enhance qualifications and a sector with a whole host of negative issues and not least Paul Little's City of Glasgow College where only last September the Tess reported "Low morale is rife in college hailed as a model for regionalisation"
Mind you The Correlate might suggest that the Government and College Senior Management have taken a lead from the City of Glasgow College where morale is low across the whole sector!
