West College EIS Reject New Posts

West College management have issued an email with a statement regarding the proposed Assistant Curriculum & Quality Leaders - ACQLs!

The statement starts ....

"Management are very disappointed that following the three campus EIS/FELA branch meetings this week, the terms and conditions relating to the introduction of ACQL posts, which were seen as an integral part of curriculum restructuring, were rejected by the Branch.

We have been informed that one of the main reasons cited for opposing the introduction of ACQL posts was that the 4 hours remission from teaching duties was insufficient in order to carry out the duties identified for the posts.  Management felt that they had made it clear that the ACQL tasks would be commensurate with the remission time and that the workloads and number of posts would continue to be reviewed as we moved forward with the new structure.

Any additional remission for these posts is not affordable within a finite college budget."

It might be appropriate for all Colleges to review the workload position following the massive number of lecturing job losses and those threatened at Edinburgh College!
