Museums not FE Students

A contribution from Ian...

The Scottish Funding Council has just awarded £6m to support University museum collections.

This comes at a time when college budgets are being slashed threatening the future of many Colleges of Further Education.

College cuts have led to students, many of whom live in Scotland's poorest communities, being denied a post-school education. They have also meant that adult students who need re-training as a consequence of structural change inthe Labour Market are also being denied access to college places.

This is at a time when Higher Education spending has been effectively ring fenced & Universities are reporting record donations from private sources (it is believed the University of Edinburgh may have attracted £600m from such sources last year alone!).

Clearly the poor are to pay the costs of Scottish Government cuts. These decisions are all being made here in Scotland.

It's obvious that the objective of creating a 'Fairer' Scotland is open to a degree of academic discussion..
