Universities attacked for top pay secrecy - The Herald Scotland
14/04/2014 00:00Universities attacked for top pay secrecy - Herald Scotland Thursday 10 April
The article states...
"SCOTTISH universities have been accused of a lack of transparency after only two institutions revealed details of the salaries awarded to their principals."
"The salaries dwarf those earned by senior UK politicians, with Prime Minister David Cameron, paid £142,000, and Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond, entitled to £140,000."
"Mary Senior, Scottish official for the UCU, said: "The time has come for the lid to be lifted on the murky world of remuneration committees and senior pay in our universities.""
The Correlate is surprised that the UCU (University and College Union) only sees the murky world of remuneration committees and senior pay limited to our universities. It is The Correlate's understanding that some FE college principals have remuneration packages that would challenge those of the UK Politicians mentioned.
With the re-classification of Further Education Colleges now would be a good time for the UCU, EIS, Unite, Unison and other FE stakeholders to issue Freedom Of Information Requests on the non-teaching senior management structures showing each post's remuneration package including salaries and benefits?
Indeed why does the Scottish Government not just publish the non-teaching senior management structures and each post's remuneration package as they were pre-regionalisation and post-regionalisation?
In the public interest of course! A case of openness and transparency and a demonstration good governance!
Or maybe they are just feart?
