Who monitors the monitors?
30/08/2013 09:01The Correlate asks "Who monitors the monitors?"
Are Further Education Colleges following appropriate guidelines regarding access to employee communications?
One new merged Further Education College has the following in its email disclaimer...
" ...... Under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, all e-mails entering and leaving ........... College are subject to systematic monitoring and may be recorded. ......"
Do YOU know what communications your College is monitoring and why? .... Well you should because they need to tell you!
Worksmart (from the TUC) says
"Your employer has a duty to inform you if they are planning to monitor email in your workplace, telling you when and why it is being carried out and who will have access to your emails.
Simply telling you that, for example, your e-mails may be monitored is not sufficient. You should be left with a clear understanding of when information about you is likely to be obtained, why it is being obtained and how it will be used."
